After seeing several people post about about this book and all the twistiness I was like, “sign me up NOW”!!! I also promised I would steer clear of Goodreads as spoilers are a plenty up in there. Trust me, you don’t want any spoilers whatsoever. Seriously!
Annabelle has been sentenced to community service at an assisted living facility after getting herself into a bit of trouble. This is where she meets Jezebel, one of the younger residents at Glenview. Jezebel seems a bit too young and doesn’t really fit the mold of a patient at an assisted living facility. During Annabelle’s 6-month stint at the facility, Jezebel tells her the story of her friend Celeste. This is where I stop talking about the synopsis.
Annabelle is your lonely teenager. Her parents are beyond non-existent and she pretty much just fends for herself. There is no love between her parents and they ignore her almost entirely. Though it’s the past that has molded the family into what it is today. Anabelle’s relationship with Jezebel becomes that one bright star that shines through her lackluster, depressing life. Jezebel seems to be the only thing that makes Anabelle look forward to waking up the next day.
“You are the key to a life of discovery.”
Romance is the underlying theme in the book. The story of Celeste that is woven in through the present is absolutely breathtaking. There are times I swooned and then there are times that I gasped. It kept me so hooked that I couldn’t wait to get back to the parts in Paris in the 90’s. Celeste’s story is not at all what it seems and is such a sad story as well. Again, I don’t want to give anything away, as the reader needs to go in spoiler-free or you will regret it. But, I will tell you that there were at least 5 times that I almost flipped to the back of the book to find out what the hell happens as I too, along with Annabelle, was waiting with bated breath.
This is my first story by K. Larsen and I want to just put it out there that I loved her writing. It completely sucked me in…I can’t even begin to think about how she was able to craft such a unique story. It was amazing, intense, and just wow.
Do you need a book that will keep you up at night? Do you need a book that you will fall in love with? Then here you go!!!!
