Jason Thorn… My brother’s childhood friend.
Oh, how stupidly in love with that boy I was. He was the first boy that made me blush, my first official crush. Sounds beautiful so far, right? That excitement that bubbles up inside you, those famous butterflies you feel for the very first time—he was the reason for them all. But, you only get to live in that fairytale world until they crush your hopes and dreams and then stomp on your heart for good measure. And boy did he crush my little heart into pieces.
After the stomping part he became the boy I did my best to stay away from—and let me tell you, it was pretty hard to do when he slept in the room right across from mine.
When tragedy struck his family and they moved away, I was ready to forget he ever existed.
Now he is a movie star, the one who makes women of all ages go into a screaming frenzy, the one who makes everyone swoon with that dimpled smile of his. Do you think that’s dreamy? I certainly don’t think so. How about me coming face to face with him? Nope still not dreamy. Not when I can’t even manage to look him in the eye.
Me? I’m Olive, a new writer. Actually, I’m THE writer of the book that inspired the movie he is about to star in on the big screen. As of late, I am also referred to as the oh-so-very-lucky girl who is about to become the wife of Jason Thorn.
Maybe you’re thinking yet again that this is all so dreamy? Nope, nothing dreamy going on here. Not even close.
There were so many themes in this book that I loved…it was like the book version of a Dairy Queen Blizzard. Older brother’s best friend? Check! Hollywood romance? Yep! Boy next door? Got it!
Olive (the name totally grew on me and I absolutely love it now) has been in love with her older brother’s best friend for many years. When Jason moves away, they lose touch. Fast forward to her college years when she is offered movie rights for her best-selling novel where the movie may be a bit loosely written about Jason… At the same time, Jason has gone all Hollywood and is an actor better known for his romantic/bad boy antics. While meeting with studio execs, Jason is brought in as the male lead character.
Olive and Jason have not seen each other in years and almost immediately they have this crazy chemistry or rather pull towards each other. They begin to forge a sort of relationship that brings out the best in both of them.
Olive goes from being this super-nervous/shy girl to a more confident lady. I had to laugh though at her almost brazen first meeting with Jason when they were kids. She was so sure that they were going to end up together. I actually was laughing at her determination! Her inner dialogue along with her bestie Lucy was so endearing. She seriously was an awesome heroine. Jason and his bad behavior becomes a completely different guy. Jason was absolute sexiness…I kid you not. The mouth on him was something a girl can only dream about. His choice for term of endearment made my heart pitter patter (my husband should really take note).
Eeep…I think my favorite part of this book was the connection that these two shared. At first their relationship is purely professional but even the paparazzi and onlookers know that there is this pull they have. There is a scene that involves a photoshoot and OyMG…so flipping hot and they aren’t even doing anything.Part of the book is this sweet New Adult romance and then it turns into this super-sexy book and it was so flipping delish!!
Also, since it was set in Hollywood you get the inner workings of what it’s like to be a celeb and how they deal with the fake stories and stalker paparazzi. I think Ella did a great job showing how things can be twisted and that you can’t always trust everything you see on TV or read in magazines!
Have I sold you yet on this awesome book? Trust me, this is a one-click book for reals. Who doesn’t want to read about a girl who gets a chance with the boy of her dreams that just happens to be the hottest movie star around?
I’m an avid reader. Therefore, a big dreamer. I love nothing more than to escape real life to find those very few magical moments in a book. I love how it has the power of stealing your worries away, putting a smile on your face, and of course sometimes making you crush on fictional characters. If I can manage to do even one of those things for a reader, I will be a happy writer.
Publishing my debut novel, I’m Yours is the scariest thing I’ve probably ever done before. However, it is also by far the most exciting thing. I can only hope to become a better writer with each new book.
My beautiful girl (A Golden Retriever) is my sunshine all year around, but I still prefer Fall over any other seasons. Danishes, In&Out Burger, Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, and Peanut Butter M&M’s will always stay as my guilty pleasures, and they can also double as bribes!
