After losing almost all of her clients in one fell swoop following an accident involving whipped cream, private chef to Hollywood’s elite Roxie Callahan gets a call from her flighty mother, saying she’s needed home in upstate New York to run the family diner. Once she’s back in the Hudson Valley, local organic farmer Leo delivers Roxie a lovely bunch of walnuts, and soon sparks—and clothing—begin to fly. Leo believes that everything worth doing is worth doing slowly…and how! But will Roxie stay upstate, or will the lure of West Coast redemption tempt her back to Tinseltown?
From New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton, the first in a brand-new romance series telling the humorously sexy tale of Roxie, a private chef who gets a taste of love—but is it to stay, or to go?
Nuts, the first book in the Hudson Valley Series, was such a cute, funny, and refreshingly new story. I not only didn’t want to put it down, but it made me want to eat farm fresh and to find my very own sexy farmer to drool over! I love the flow of Alice Clayton books. She doesn’t rush it and lets things happen naturally for her characters. In Nuts, there wasn’t an insta-love, although there sure was an insta-connection, between Roxie and Leo. The friendship and flirting between the two of them started slow and lead to more at a great pace.
Roxie fled her small home-town as soon as she was old enough, to persue her dream of cooking in Hollywood. But when her mom needs her help at the family diner, she drops everything to head back to small-town USA. Her first meeting with local organic farmer, Leo is nothing short of hiliarious and the sparks definitely fly.
The concept behind the story was something I haven’t read before, which I loved, especially when so many storylines are recycling the same thing over and over again. Roxie made me want to start cooking or even look into cooking lessons. Plus all her yummy concoctions made me super hungry! Not only is she a super star in the kitchen, but Roxie is a nerdy, klumsy, say whatever is on your mind type of girl and I just loved that. Her fantasy of finding her own Farmer Boy and then calling Leo ‘Almanzo’ was perfect! It reminded me of all the reasons I use to love Little House on the Prairie!!
Leo… where to even begin with this guy. The picture I have in my head of this sexy farmer, I am sure wouldn’t even do him justice. But, it was fun to imagine him from all the skokie scenes they shared. I loved how he took something he was so passionate about and used it to change his image, his career path, and basically his whole life for the better. The array of secondary characters in this book made the story so much fun to read! I loved the sass on Miss Polly and “The” Chad Bowman and his charming husband Logan were the best! Plus, Roxie’s best friends (especially Natalie) were hilarious. I can’t wait to see where the next book in the series goes between Natalie and Oscar the hunky Dairy farmer!
If you are looking for a sweet love story that will have you laughing out loud, then definitely pick up Nuts!!
