I’ve loved him as long as I can remember.

The gangly boy with big brown eyes and unruly hair who grew up into an intoxicating man. He wears scruff like he invented it and ambles with a swagger that makes panties drop.

Killian Shepard.

We grew up together. We played Ghost in the Graveyard. Had our own rock band. It didn’t matter that he was five years older than me. It didn’t matter that he looked at me as a kid sister even as I grew into a woman. It didn’t even matter when he left me behind to go to college and start his adult life.

He’d be back.

He was always meant to be mine.

He came back, all right. But instead of smelling of promises, he stunk of betrayal. And he destroyed me—us—the day he married my sister instead of me.

So I did the only thing a girl like me in my position could do.

I got my revenge.

I married his brother, Kael.

Now we’re one big happy fucking family.

This book. I’m not even sure where to begin with my review as it’s so hard to articulate how much I loved it. This book had EVERYTHING that makes a book absolutely perfect for me. Excellent writing. Taboo theme. Angst. Sexiness. It was absolute Kindle crack that had me salivating for the next word.

Maverick has loved two men for as long as she can remember, one as a best friend, Kael, and one as her happy ever after, Killian. Unfortunately, the man she thought she’d end up with married her sister instead…completely out of the blue. Maverick finds herself marrying her best friend a bit later while she is still licking her wounds.   I know what you’re thinking, it sounds strange and how can a author pull this off, right?!

“We can’t help who we love, Maverick.”

I know this story sounds a bit unconventional. Yes, I completely agree and only can a very talented storyteller pull this one off exquisitely. It’s told in dual POV and also in present and past which made the story unfold so well and chomping at the bit to keep reading.

This book will have you go from loathing Maverick, well at least I did, to actually feeling some sort of empathy for her. You have a woman who has loved a man her entire life yet she can’t have him. He’s not only married, but he’s married to the worst person in the world.

“I’m going to worship your body, love your heart, own your soul, and make sure you remember this night for the rest of your life.”

Then there’s Kael. He is my favorite part of the story. He’s the man who’s in love with a woman who has always loved his brother. He finally gets the girl but does he really have her?

Can Maverick find a way to fall in love with her husband or will she always be in love with Killian?

If you are looking for a story that will completely blow your mind, have you and completely obsessed with the next word, you must check this one out. There are twists and turns I did not see coming.

I know this review is a bit short, but I don’t want to give anything away. So please stay away from spoilers. I’ll let you know, this one is a top read for me. I absolutely loved it.
