Their love led to a lie
Their truth led to the end
Brigs McGregor is crawling out from the ashes. After losing his wife and son in a car accident and his job from his subsequent downward spiral, he’s finally moving forward, getting a prestigious teaching position at the University of London and a new life in the city. Slowly, but surely, he’s pushing past the guilt and putting his tragic past behind him.
Until he sees her.
Natasha Trudeau once loved a man so much she thought she’d die without him. But their love was wrong, doomed from the start, and when their world crashed around them, Natasha was nearly buried in the rubble. It took years of moving on to forget him, and now that she’s in London, she’s ready to start again.
Until she sees him.
Because some loves are too dangerous to ever indulge. And some loves are far too powerful to ignore.
Their love just might be the life and the death of them.
There is something about Karina’s writing that just sucks you in. She paints emotionally-heavy stories that makes you want to drop everything.
We met Brigs in The Play, he is Lachlan’s older brother who has suffered a tremendous loss. Four years ago, he lost his son and wife to a tragic accident. Though he was not directly involved, the pain and guilt he suffers from has completely changed him into a different man.
This book is split between the past and the present. Four years ago (the past), Brigs was a professor and a happy man, or at least he thought was. That is, until he meets Natasha, a student that he hires to help him write his book. Slowly they fall in love but since he is married, there is not much they can do. This leads to two people who are destroyed by the outcome and finally FINALLY almost moved on completely.
In the present, they are both attending a different university, Brigs as a professor and Natasha is finishing up her Masters. When a chance of fate brings them together in a completely different city they are faced with a second chance of love, hope, and the future.
Brigs and Natasha have both been through hell and back without each other and the subsequent fallout to their emotional affair years prior. It’s not until they start spending time together again that the chemistry, passion, and love comes back at a rapid pace. Karina writes their scenes with such emotional and compassion that you know they are to be together besides the obstacles that they need to overcome. The guilt. The anger. The past. Trust me, there is some angst in this one…but I don’t think this book would be complete without it.
This book was written with such emotion, especially that prologue that you will be rooting until the very end to ensure they have that HEA. Many people stay away from storylines that have even a hint of cheating in them. I have read a dozen or two that follow this storyline and I think Karina did a tremendous job showing both sides and letting the reader know that it wasn’t something they sought out to do. You too, will want Brigs and Natasha to end up together.
