When Kate Watts abandoned her law career to open a food pantry in Northeast Minneapolis, she never dreamed it would be this difficult. Facing the heartbreaking prospect of turning hungry people away, she is grateful for the anonymous donations that begin appearing at the end of each month. Determined to identify and thank her secret benefactor, she launches a plan and catches Ian —a charismatic hacker with a Robin Hood complex—in the act. Ian intrigues Kate in a way no man ever has. But after learning he’s snooped around on her personal computer, she demands retribution. Impressed with her tolerance and captivated by her spirit, he complies and begins to slowly charm his way past her defenses. Time spent with Ian is never boring, and Kate soon finds herself falling for the mysterious hacker.

But Ian has enemies and they’re growing restless. In the hacking world, exploiting a target’s weakness is paramount, and no price is too high to stop an attack. And when Kate learns exactly how much Ian has paid, she’ll discover just how strong her love is for the man who has hacked his way into her heart.

I have been waiting somewhat patiently for Heart-Shaped Hack for a while. I have loved all of Tracey’s previous work, her words flow together seamlessly and it is part of the reason why I love reading so much. Going in, I just knew that I was going to love this one.

Kate is a corporate lawyer turned food pantry owner. She has given up her high-paying job to do what feels right for her. As a plea to grab more attention/donations, Kate tapes a small segment on TV and grabs the attention of more than just some donations. Enter in a mysterious donor, Ian who ends up intriguing her and eventually grabbing her heart.

“Come on over to the dark side, Katie. I’ll save you a seat next to me.”

This love story was very unique-it was fresh yet a bit taboo at the same time (my favorite). You see, Ian is a super hero of sorts, a modern-day Robin Hood to be exact. He is this mysterious, yet all so swoony hacker. Ugh…he can hack for me anytime…seriously. Kate is also a refreshing heroine. She’s a kind-hearted woman who is also fiercely independent and doesn’t need a man to make her happy. Yet, just like me she can’t help but fall for Ian.

“Always choose love. Always choose the adventure. You’ll never regret it.”

The chemistry that Ian and Kate shared right from the beginning was fabulous even though it was hate at first sight for Kate. But slowly, Ian started to break down her walls and eventually had her and me falling for him. He had to be a bit evasive for many reasons yet gave more of himself to Kate than he has to anyone else. Though if I was Kate, I don’t think I’d been so trusting and would’ve possibly demanded answers.

“And you, Ian Smith Merrick Bradshaw, will be my adventure.”

I don’t want to give away a lot of the story as there are so many parts that had me clutching my heart and bringing some tears to my eyes. It is a bit suspenseful which is always a bonus for me as well. But in all honesty, it was a true love story. Heart-Shaped Hack is the sort of love you want to read about and dream about. It is also beautifully written and restored my faith in reading; but I wouldn’t expect any less from Tracey Garvis-Graves.
