At seventeen, the small town of Saltwater Springs had been everything to Scarlett Devereaux—as had her boyfriend Luke. Never had she imagined she’d have to leave them both behind—until the night that changed everything. A decade after skipping town Scarlett returns to start over in the only place that ever really felt like home. But when nothing goes as planned, she’s forced to turn to Luke for help. With a drunk for a dad and a mom making pocket change at the local diner, no one ever thought Luke Garrity would amount to anything. After building a successful contracting business he’s proven everyone wrong professionally, but things in his personal life are upside down. Making it the exact wrong time for Scarlett to return to Saltwater Springs.

With a history of devastation and heartbreak between them can Scarlett and Luke make amends, or will secrets from the past threaten the foundation of Scarlett’s new life? Were Luke and Scarlett really built to last?

One of my favorite types of Contemporary Romance novels to read, is one that is set in a small town. I love being transported back to that place and feeling as though I am standing in the middle of Main St. living life alongside the characters. I love the close family feel that these types of stories bring to me with charming side characters and a feeling of a settled life.

I have read several of Elisabeth Grace’s work and have always been a fan of her writing and storytelling. The minute I read the synopsis of Built To Last, I knew it was something I had to get my hands on. It was a slow, comfortable read. One that reminded me of sitting in my favorite chair with a warm blanket and a cup of hot chocolate.

Scarlett is back home in the town of Saltwater Springs after leaving abruptly 10 years ago. She left behind Luke, the love her life with no explanation and no goodbye. Returning home a different person than she was, “Lettie” is determined to once and for all live life by her terms and make herself happy doing what she loves.

Luke was the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Pulling yourself out of the vicious cycle that society places on ones shoulders and expects is never easy. Luke has made something of himself. He is proud of what he has accomplished and is living a happy life, albeit a life that is empty without the woman he once loved.

Watching Luke and Scarlett reconnect made my heart pitter patter. Scarlett fought things every step of the way, determined in knowing that once she explained why she left to Luke 10 years ago things would never be the same.

One can never go wrong with a sweet, second chance at love. Elisabeth Grace balances the emotions throughout her writing so well. Feelings are never overdone, as she blends her characters angst, joy, love and drama so well. Any book that can make me laugh, swoon and put down in the end with a full heart is one worth reading and Built To Last gave me everything I asked for.
