Series: Cold Fury #3 on June 9, 2015
Genres: Love & Romance
Rising star Zack Grantham has been stuck in a downward spiral of grief ever since the car accident that left him a single dad and put his career on hold. Back on the road with the Carolina Cold Fury and still crippled by emotional baggage, he’s in need of some serious help with his son. But while the nerdy new nanny wins his son’s heart, Zack isn’t sure he’s ready for a woman’s touch—even after getting a glimpse of the killer curves she’s hiding under those baggy clothes.
Kate Francis usually keeps men like Zack at a distance. Though his athlete’s body is honed to perfection, he refuses to move on with his life—and besides, he’s her boss. Still, the sparks between them are undeniable, tempting Kate to turn their professional relationship into a personal one. But before she makes a power play for Zack’s wounded heart, Kate will have to open him up again and show him that love is worth the fight.
I am a sucker for this series. Or is it hockey players? Let’s call it an even split perhaps? I am going to be bold and say that this one is my favorite of all three. All of these books have a series theme to them and this one to me was the most emotional one.
Zack is still in a deep depression months after his girlfriend and mother to their son, Gina passed away. It’s the guilt that he carries that causes him the most trouble. When his sister hires a nanny to take care of Ben, his son, he does not expect it to come in the form of Kate. Kate is an adorkable young girl who is so different from anything he knows.
Once Zack finally breaks down and gives in to his desires with Kate does their consensual “non-relationship” relationship turn into something more.
I love these sort of relationships where the guy is so stubborn about NOT having a relationship that he ends up in a relationship without even knowing it. The thing is that Zack is still punishing himself for the car accident and the guilt is pretty much eating him alive. It also doesn’t help that he had to admit that his relationship with Gina wasn’t as perfect as he thought. I will say that Zack could be a bit cruel at times and I almost wanted to slap the sh$t out of him.
Kate on other hand was so…I am not even sure there is a word for her. She is the exact thing that Zack needed and entered his life at the right time. She had weird sayings, dressed herself down, and pretty much hid the real her from the world. But, she was the light that Zack needed to bring him back to life. I don’t know how she could take some of his meanness at times. I almost wanted to yell at her and tell her to scream or punch him.
As always, I loved this book. It had the right amount of angst, Skokiness, and just all-around great story. I highly recommend this series.
