The irresistible, blazing-hot sequel to New York Times bestselling author Molly McAdams’s Forgiving Lies. Rachel is supposed to be planning her wedding to Kash, the love of her life. After the crazy year they’ve had, she’s ready to settle down and live a completely normal life. Well, as normal as it can be. But there’s something else waiting—something threatening to tear them apart. Kash is ready for it all with Rach. Especially if all includes having a football team of babies with his future wife. With his line of work, he knows how short life can be, and doesn’t want to waste another minute of theirs. But now his past as an undercover narcotics agent has come back to haunt him … and it’s the girl he loves who’s caught in the middle.
Trent Cruz’s orders are clear: take the girl. But there’s something about this girl that has him changing the rules and playing a dangerous game to keep her safe. When his time as Rachel’s protector runs out, he will turn his back on the only life he’s known, and risk everything, if it means getting her out alive.
**WARNING- DON’T READ ANY FURTHER UNLESS YOU HAVE READ FORGIVING LIES—May contain spoilers for book one!**
Stacia- Deceiving Lies picks up a few months prior to the cliff hanger that left us all hanging at the end of Forgiving Lies. We get a more detailed glimpse into Kash and Rachel’s life; seeing them together right after they get back together and are planning their wedding. They are both ready to finally put the past behind them and move on with their lives together. However, outside forces once again have different plans and Rachel is once again put in danger.
Tina- Stacia, I loved reading about Kash and Rachel as a happy couple. Rachel got to meet Kash’s family and got to become a part of another family that welcomed her in! And everything seemed to be going right with the world and you just knew that things couldn’t stay that good for long! Unfortunately, Kash’s undercover work came back to bite him in the butt a little bit and Rachel was used as a pawn in the gang world!
Stacia- Aaahhhh, I know Tina! I loved how in the beginning we still get the humor and love between Rachel and Kash that I loved from the first book. Plus we get to experience all the hot and sexy that is Kash Ryan. But then things take a turn… and I was just waiting and waiting for Kash to swoop in and save the day. The second part of this book is dark, gritty, and contains a third party that might just reek havoc on Kash and Rachel’s love story- which I DID not like.
“If I’ve lost her, I’ve already lost it all.”
Tina- I totally agree! My anxiety level was on high alert for most of this book; almost to the point of physical illness! At this point, I was a little troubled by the storyline! We saw a different side of Rachel and I was not sure how I felt about that. In Forgiving Lies, I loved everything about Rachel and in this book, my feelings toward her were starting to change and it made me sad! If Molly was trying to give us a major case of angst, she absolutely succeeded! I had to walk away from the book for a night and I never do that!
Stacia- I had moments of not liking Rachel either. I can understand her character changing and evolving; I mean POOR Rachel, what else could that girl go through?!? But some of the choices and things she did didn’t sit well with me. And Kash…. Oh sweet and sexy Kash- I just felt so bad for all that he had to endure in this book. It seemed like every time he was hit with something and attempted to recover, he was knocked down again. I did fall deeper in love with him in this book I think, because he showed what a patient and loving man he really is.
“I’m here. Always. And I’m never giving up on us. I love you.”
Tina- Poor Rachel is right! I am not sure if a girl could go through much more! Her choices were not the best, but I guess in that moment, she did what she thought was right. It still caused me to not be very happy with her! But then there was Kash…OMG! I just wanted to hug him and tell him that everything would be okay! The guilt that he was feeling was off the charts and it just made me so sad! He definitely showed a side of himself that I don’t think he even knew he had as he arranged the most selfless act and completely put his heart on the line in order to give Rachel the choice of a lifetime. If you weren’t smitten with Kash at that point, you need to have your head examined!
“There are still times when I stop dead in my tracks when I see you, and wonder how you’re mine. You’re beautiful; and your fire for life, and strength after everything you’ve been through, amazes me. So if anyone leaves the other speechless, it’s you.”
Stacia- I had thought that Forgiving Lies was outside of Molly McAdam’s normal genre and writing, however Deceiving Lies is even further outside! Which just shows what an amazing and versatile author she is.
I understand we can’t just have a fluffy love story, but I don’t know that all the additional drama and angst was needed… and to be honest, I don’t know if this book was even needed. I kind of wish that we just gotten a longer epilogue and that their HEA could have just concluded at the end of Forgiving Lies. However, I still would recommend this book to readers that enjoyed Forgiving lies.
Tina- I couldn’t agree more with the point that this book was even further from the norm for Molly McAdams. If you read Forgiving Lies, you definitely need to read Deceiving Lies to find out what in the world happens. I just don’t know how I feel about some of the angst, as it was a lot for me because I felt so strongly towards the story going in one direction.
