“If I let go…will you catch me?” He had wanted her to help him win his ex-girlfriend back. She had wanted to teach him a few lessons on how to treat a woman. Neither one had planned for the unexpected. I couldn’t stand by and watch. It hit too close to home. I had to run fast and far to get away and forget him. He weaseled his way into my life, making me question rules I lived by and turned my orderly life upside down. I’m falling apart and coming undone. I don’t do that. I’m Madison Stuart. I live life by my rules. I won’t be derailed by a man. I won’t…I can’t. She’s gone. I’m desperate and going insane. I’ll do whatever it takes to find her. Nothing’s going to keep me away from her. I don’t know when it happened, but I won’t let her go, not like this. What has she done to me? I’m Rick Marin for crying out loud. I don’t chase women, but she’s not just any woman. She’s Maddy – my Maddy – and I need her.
Follow Rick and Madison’s story, The Do Over’s most notorious couple, as they learn that It’s Not Over.
Warning: We highly recommend that you read The Do Over before you read It’s Not Over. Although each book can be read as a standalone we really believe you need to meet Rick in The Do Over first to fully understand It’s Not Over. If you haven’t read The Do Over, the following review may contain spoilers for The Do Over.
Finally we got to spend more time with Rick Marin. He was the character that I hated with a passion in The Do Over but it was one of those love/hate relationships. I just loved to hate him. He was trying to manipulate Daniela and I hated him for it but his intentions were good (kind of..maybe, not really) but along the way he met a feisty, sexy, and ball busting woman named Madison who had him in the “Madison Stuart School of Castrating Rick”.
It’s Not Over starts exactly where we left off in The Do Over. We find Maddy running with the intention of disappearing from Rick. Everything became too real for her, she couldn’t believe that she started having feelings for Rick while helping him pursue his ex-girlfriend. This isn’t the type of woman she is, she needs to stay focused and the only way to do that is to escape the man that has meddled with her thoughts.
You can run, Maddy..but you can’t hide. Rick is absolutely determined to make Maddy his. He has finally realized that he’s been chasing the wrong girl all this time and will stop at nothing to get his girl. Now begins the struggle of cracking through Maddy’s icy exterior and getting in there long enough before she has the ability to seal up the cracks. Maddy struggles with wanting to keep her poised and in control exterior and wanting to show Rick who she really is.
“If I fall, will you catch me?”
“Every single fucking time, Maddy.”
I did struggle with connecting with Maddy throughout the book. I loved her when she showed her sensitive and more girly side and couldn’t stand her when she became the ice queen. I completely understood why she would show her icy exterior, it’s her shield against all things that can hurt her and trust me, there are people coming from all sides that want to crack Maddy in half.
With all the people trying to take them down, Maddy and Rick are still able to find moments to break through her exterior. I really enjoyed the intimate moments they had with each other and the steps each were taking to realize how much they meant to each other.
“But I’ll take a day of crazy with you over a lifetime of sanity without you.”
The story left off with a major WTF moment and I can’t wait for the next one. You should definitely pick up It’s Not Over and continue the journey of Rick and Maddy that began in The Do Over. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
