I fell in love once.
It was amazing. She was amazing. Life was amazing.
I lived for each time I could see her, and nothing else mattered, not that our families were enemies, our time together was forbidden, or we had to meet in secret.
Our love could conquer all.
Until it didn't.
So I was ripped away from the love of my life and shoved into hell, forced to continue without her.
It shattered me, broke the best parts of me, left me permanently damaged.
Or so I thought.
Years later, I swear history’s trying to repeat itself because she’s back in my life, and I’m just as drawn to her as I was before. But I'm older and wiser now, and I know she should stay away from a worthless ex-con like me.
So, I will not let her in. I absolutely refuse to hurt her. I will keep her away.
Then again, sometimes risking your greatest fear to get to a smile makes everything worth it, and besides, I’m not sure I can resist her, anyway.
This is the story of how Felicity Bainbridge changed my life forever, starting one summer day long ago after I was forced to change a dirty diaper...
Dare I say this may be my favorite of all The Forbidden Men books. Linda Kage really hit a home run with Worth It. This modern-day retelling of Romeo and Juliet definitely was a bit darker than the previous books but it also, in my opinion was the more intense, destined star-crossed lovers, all-encompassing love story that we want to fall in love with.
Knox and Felicity’s families are sworn enemies. Felicity hails from the affluent Bainbridge clan that absolutely despises the less fortunate “trashy” Parker family. So it makes sense that a chance meeting in the woods sparks a love affair that spans many years. During that summer of love, they experience many firsts while falling completely in love with each other. Unfortunately, fate has a hand in their love and tears them apart in the most unfortunate way. Years later, after Knox returns after years away, he is confronted with his past and the demons that have plagued him.
This book was told in the past and present in both Felicity and Knox’s POVs. The thing with this book is, you can feel (I am absolutely serious) the beginning of Knox and Felicity’s relationship-it was such young love that blossomed into so much more. You will literally fall in love with them while they fall for each other. I am the first to admit that at times, that young love can come across as a bit cheesy (sorry) but in Worth It, Linda did an impeccable job capturing the magic of that FIRST LOVE.
During the present, you will be right there while Knox is fighting the nightmare he has been living for the last six years. You will be rooting for both of these characters to find their happily ever after while working through the past and finding their way back to each other. You will never doubt that they fell out of love from each other. Though they have some serious obstacles love conquers all.
Knox is determined to keep Felicity at bay as he doesn’t want to “hurt” her. He also thinks he is not good enough for her, which without a doubt is so not true. Whereas, Felicity will not allow that and fight him tooth and nail to open up to her. I have to admit, I loved her tenacity and how she wouldn’t give up on Knox.
To be honest, I was a bit worried about enjoying this one. I didn’t really know these characters from the past books. I didn’t actually know how they’d ultimately fit into this series. But trust me…they were the right piece for this Forbidden Men puzzle. You will get more than just a few glimpses of all the other men and their awesome ladies. And I must add…Pick seriously is still my favorite. He will make you fall even more in love with him in this one. Oh and that epilogue will have you on the edge of your seat waiting for Asher’s book.
