Andrew Harper grew up in a house marked by tragedy. His older brother Owen did his best to shelter him, but you can only be protected from life’s pain for so long. Eventually, you end up just feeling numb…and isolated.
Loneliness was the one constant in Andrew’s life. Until one girl, met by chance in a high school hallway, changed everything. Emma Burke was a mystery and all that was beautiful in this world, the only air Andrew ever wanted to breathe. She took the lonely away, and filled it with hope and color, and Andrew would do anything to keep her safe, happy and whole.
But sometimes, what feels good and right is what ends up hurting us the most. And when Andrew and Emma are faced with an impossible decision, Andrew is tested to see just how far he’s willing to go for the girl who owns his heart.
Cuts are deep.
Scars are left behind.
And revenge beckons.
When Andrew finally gets his chance, in college, five years after his first love broke him completely, he finds out old feelings don’t really disappear just because you say you hate someone. The more he tries to avenge all that he believes he lost, the more he uncovers the real story of what happened years before.
Love is wicked. But a restless heart is never satisfied beating on its own. Can Andrew and Emma make it right before it's too late, or will the ties that bind them now destroy their only chance at a future?
Wicked Restless is the second book in Ginger Scott’s Harper Boys series. This one is about Andrew Harper and the girl he falls in love with at such an early age.
This book spans more then just a couple of years, so you definitely can see the progression from YA to NA. The reader gets a glimpse into the innocent, sweet, first-love type of romance that Emma and Andrew embark on. Then in the present years, their story becomes a bit edgier and angst-driven.
“I want this girl to be the girl-my girl. The one I take to things and experience everything with.”
Andrew takes Excel classes for the smarter students so he doesn’t really have any friends. Andrew sets his eyes on Emma and almost immediately is captivated by her. Since he doesn’t go to high school with her all day, there is just that PE class and for that short amount of time a day their relationship blossoms. Their relationship is short-lived as something tears them apart.
They meet again by coincidence years later at college. Andrew has turned into a completely different person. He’s more hardened, bitter, and just all-around not the greatest guy to keep in your company. Emma is still the same sweet girl she was before. Because of what happened in high school, Andrew is angry, especially with Emma. And trust me, I completely get it. So when he finds an opportunity to seek some revenge he does. What he wasn’t expecting was to have the same exact feelings for her like he had in the past.
I am not going to go deep into the synopsis as there was a lot that went down in this story. It was a bit dramatic, but I honestly enjoyed it all. I think the anger that Andrew carried with him was completely warranted. Though I don’t think he was thinking with a clear mind when he thought his plan for revenge was actually a smart one. But, when people are angry they tend to do things irrationally. The things he went through after the tragedy I can’t even think about. They are utterly awful.
I do wish we got more interaction with them as a couple. I wanted to see exactly why they were so in love with each other. What made them know that they were it for each other? Plus, I would have wanted a longer epilogue. Or at least one further in the future.
“If you want me-you have me. Or…more clearly…I’m yours.”
All in all, this was a very enjoyable read and just gives me another reason as to why Ginger Scott is one of my favorite one-click authors.
