From the USA Today Bestselling Author Jen Frederick comes another sexy romance in the Woodlands series.Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life: stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.
Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn’t move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn’t taken many chances in life. Now, she’s met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?
I have to say, I absolutely love this series. Each book has lived up to my expectations especially Unraveled! I completely fell in love Gray immediately, he struggled with the decision of whether to stay in Marines like his Grandfather keeps telling him to or to explore civilian life like his Father has been talking about. Gray believes that relationships cannot last with someone in the service all because of a horrible ex-girlfriend that didn’t know what she had when they were together. I could feel Gray’s internal struggle of who to please and his frustration with trying to figure out what we really wanted to do with his life. As he gets granted an extended leave and stays with..you guessed it..the boys at The Woodlands, he meets Samantha Anderson.
Samantha is not your normal 22 year-old girl, she’s already lost her husband who was determined to live life on an adventure which is why he joined the service and in turn died while serving in Afghanistan. Even two years after her husband died she is still stuck in the remembrance of him, not ready to move on. I could feel Sam’s pain from losing her husband and the desperation she felt to try to move on but the inability to do so..until sexy Gray Phillips bursts into her life.
These two had amazing chemistry and you could feel the connection building between the two of them. There were some definite ups and downs, misunderstandings, and growing pains that all come with a new relationship but especially one with two people who have know idea how to step out of their pasts. The love that grew between Sam and Gray was amazing, I couldn’t imagine anything better! I also loved spending time with Bo and Noah, they are fiercely loyal and totally hilarious.
If you haven’t jumped on the ride that is The Woodlands boys then I highly suggest you do. I have loved every story in the series and cannot wait for the next!
