Graham Russell and I weren’t made for one another.
I was driven by emotion; he was apathetic. I dreamed while he lived in nightmares. I cried when he had no tears to shed.
Despite his frozen heart and my readiness to run, we sometimes shared seconds. Seconds when our eyes locked and we saw each other’s secrets. Seconds when his lips tasted my fears, and I breathed in his pains. Seconds when we both imagined what it would be like to love one another.
Those seconds left us floating, but when reality knocked us sideways, gravity forced us to descend.
Graham Russell wasn’t a man who knew how to love, and I wasn’t a woman who knew how to either. Yet if I had the chance to fall again, I’d fall with him forever.
Even if we were destined to crash against solid ground.
I need to hand it to Brittainy…she writes the most beautiful stories. Her writing is flawless, the emotions pour through her words, and her stories are just unforgettable.
“If you need to fall, fall into me.”
Lucy (Lucille) is youngest of three girls. She is the dreamer, the lover, the “hippie” of the three. She wears her heart on her sleeve, will do anything for her family and anyone she loves as well. She gives unconditional love even if she doesn’t receive it back. To sum it up, Lucy is just a beautiful and moving character.
Graham is completely different than Lucy. Frankly, I think he’s the complete opposite of her. Where she is light, he is dark. Where she is warm and fuzzy, he is cold and prickly. But after his childhood, I think that’s to be expected. He’s a man of very few spoken words but many written words.
“This life is short, and you never know how many chapters you have left in your novel, Graham. Live each day as if it’s the final page. Breathe each moment as if it’s the final word.”
I think it’s hard to really discuss any of this plot without giving any spoilers out. Lucy and Graham meet under strange circumstances. They have a common ground that brings them together. Though Graham doesn’t want Lucy around, she eventually grows on him. Their relationship is a very slow burn but in all honesty, that is the only way it could’ve worked. The most beautiful part of the story was Graham’s journey in falling in love with Lucy. The story shows Graham evolve into a man that has long been stripped of all emotions. Lucy is there the entire time to put him back together.
“Loving Lucy Hope Palmer wasn’t a choice; it was my destiny.”
Like I said, Brittainy pens the best love stories and The Gravity of Us is no exception. The amount of quotes I highlighted exceeded the amount I normally do by at least double. This is a unique story that will have you racing to the end and truly understanding that things really do happen for a reason. Maktub.
