The stakes have never been higher for Carolina Cold Fury goalie Ryker Evans. With his contract running out, he’s got a year left to prove he’s still at the top of his game. And since his wife left him, Ryker has been balancing life as a pro-hockey star and a single parent to two daughters. Management is waiting for him to screw up. The fans are ready to pounce. Everybody’s taking dirty shots—except for the fiery redhead whose faith in Ryker gives him a fresh start.
As the league’s only female general manager, Gray Brannon has learned not to mix business with pleasure. And yet even this tough, talented career woman can’t help breaking her own rules as she gives Ryker everything she’s got. She hopes their hot streak will last forever, but with Ryker’s conniving ex plotting to reclaim her man, the pressure’s on Gray to step up and save a tender new love before it’s too late.
All of the books in Sawyer Bennett’s Cold Fury series are just yummy, and Ryker did not disappoint! It had the right amount of storyline, angst, and sexiness that made this book one I didn’t want to put down.
You may remember Ryker from Zack’s book. His wife and mother of his children up and left him for a younger hockey player. Gray is the new FEMALE GM of the Cold Fury hockey team. Of course her new position does not go over very well with the hockey players. But she does catch the eye of Ryker and vice versa.
Though they have a connection, they both fight it as it’s a bit forbidden for a GM to be dating one of her players. Plus, Ryker has his children and his ex to contend with. So once they enter into a relationship they have to pretty much sneak around as to not get caught.
I really liked Gray. She was a bit nerdy with all her math/stats but she won the hot guy in the end, right? She also wasn’t your typical chick who was into all the girlie stuff that most are. I liked that about her. Ryker was super sweet and alpha at the same time. I think I fell in love at the beginning when he was braiding his daughter’s hair, how could you not?
I do wish there was just a bit more of something to this book. I can’t really put my finger on it. I think maybe they were lacking a bit more of a foundation that the other couples had. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed it…but I just wanted more. More of what? I’m not sure.
There was no mention of another book in the series, but I really hope we get some more of these sexy hockey players!
