Back to Life by Danielle Allen: Review and Giveaway

Sahara Lee has spent the last ten years living with the guilt of a tragic accident and its aftermath. That night irrevocably changed the outgoing, fun-loving college freshman into an introverted, workaholic with no social life. Sahara isolates herself from everyone and everything that reminds her of home in an effort to forget what happened. Using art as a substitute for love, Sahara throws herself into music and art as a way to feel something other than the guilt that haunts her. She accepts her lonely existence as penance for the role she played in the accident. That is, until she meets Tyree Barker, the good looking entrepreneur with baggage of his own.

Blindsided by a legal loophole, Sahara is suddenly forced to confront the past she’s been running from. Juggling the guilty feelings of her past and the unexpected feelings of her present, Sahara’s future becomes complicated as she heads down a path of forgiveness, love, and heartbreak…and not in that particular order.

Back to Life reminds you that living and existing are two completely different way to go through life. Grief will break you but guilt, guilt will destroy you. And once that happens, what can bring you back to life?

Leary says…

Seriously, don’t judge a book by it’s cover. That is exactly what I am feeling at this moment. I looked at the cover and thought..meh..but I literally finished the book 5 minutes ago and had to get my thoughts out ASAP. I honestly wasn’t loving this book for the first 40% – yes there were great scenes between Sahara and Ty and there was an emotional back story that was told throughout the book but I found my self annoyed with how much Sahara was blaming herself but really, you can’t know if you’d react the same as Sahara did unless you were in her shoes. I decided I had to get over my annoyance.
When I was at the best time. The time I was waiting for throughout the first half of the book. Yes please, let me see this past, let me meet these people. I don’t want to give too much away about the book so this review is going to short and sweet. I’ve had books where I’ve gone back and forth with who I thought the person should be with but I could always make up my mind quickly. I COULD NOT make up my mind in this story.
He is perfect..oh wait no, that was sweet, oh wait could he do that?! Seriously, I had whiplash from my extreme emotions between the characters. I’m at the last 5% and I’m thinking I feel like something is resolved, I had this little voice in the back of my head saying..this is really great, I’m really liking where this is going to end but tap tap tap I think there’s something unresolved. Then the ending…BAM..seriously?! Yup that’s what was unresolved and what happened?!
Next book please, like now! I NEED TO KNOW

My ultimate goal is to create a character or a story that stays with you long after you’ve put the book down.
So in a nutshell: I plan. I teach. I read. I write. I watch. I critique. I shop. I play. I love.
