On Higher Ground
On Higher Ground is the continuation of Beck and Dax’s love story, so if you haven’t read On Solid Ground STOP RIGHT HERE and pick it up now.
I always read the acknowledgments that the author’s place at the end of the book. Melissa stated in her acknowledgements that “love is love and their story showcases that perfectly”. I honestly could not agree more. What Dax and Beck have is non-traditional to some…but love should never EVER be discriminated against it. Love comes in all different sizes and shapes and can be a bit blurry at times. It’s the beauty of their love for each other that feeds the romance book lover in me! Okay, I just needed to get that off my chest.
“You’re mine, and I’m yours. That’s all that matters. All that has and all that ever will.”
On Higher Ground picks up shortly after the last book. Dax and Beck have not tied the knot yet but as they have some obstacles to overcome. PTSD, some insecurity on both parts, family, and every day life lend to some of their problems in moving forward. But what Dex and Beck have definitely makes all these problems worth the love that they share.
I think one of my favorite things about this book is the love these two sexy men share for Victoria. I swear the interactions between them and their daughter just breaks my heart. Melissa did such a fantastic job writing that part of the story. Also, the chemistry between these two is still very much at the forefront of the story….and let’s just say it’s super steamy!
“The moment I saw you for who you were, flaws and all, I belonged to you. It may have been in ways I hadn’t realized, but I did.”
I am not always a huge believer that a story needs to be continued into another book. But sometimes as a reader we just need to see what happens after the HEA. This book is a prime example as to one that was a great addition to an already fabulous standalone.
Melissa Collins writes some of the best M/M out there. It’s not bogged down with unnecessary sex scenes, it’s laced with a beautiful story and incredible writing. If you are new to M/M, this is a great series to start with!
Love is Dax and Beck.
