Two hearts in the darkness…
Makenna James and Caden Grayson have been inseparable since the day they were trapped in a pitch-black elevator and found acceptance and love in the arms of a stranger. Makenna hopes that night put them on the path to forever—which can’t happen until she introduces her tattooed, pierced, and scarred boyfriend to her father and three over-protective brothers.
Must fight for love in the light…
Haunted by a childhood tragedy and the loss of his family, Caden never thought he’d find the love he shares with Makenna. But the deeper he falls, the more he fears the devastation sure to come if he ever lost her, too. When meeting her family doesn’t go smoothly, Caden questions whether Makenna deserves someone better, stronger, and just more…normal. Maybe they’re too different—and he’s far too damaged—after all…
I only just recently read Hearts in Darkness the first book in this series, last week. So, I didn’t have to wait the almost 3-years some readers had to for more of Caden and Makenna. However, I was still very anxious to read more of their story, especially since Laura Kaye was able to write so much emotion and passion into such a short first book.
Love in the Light picks up a couple of months after Caden and Makenna first met. They are still enjoying getting to know each other and preparing to spend the holidays with her dad and three brothers. Caden is still dealing with a lot of insecurities, anxiety, and even depression over the accident that took his mom and brother fourteen years before. He clearly loves Makenna but worries if he can be enough for her and this is what this story really focuses on; Caden coming to terms with his past and what he really wants in his future.
“You own me, Red. Do you know that? There isn’t a part of me that isn’t yours completely.”
To me, Makenna’s character really grew in this book. She was very loving and sweet in the first book, but I felt like she showed so much support, patience, and strength throughout this book. Caden was just as amazing as he was in the first book, but he also tugged at my heartstrings with the emotional things he had to deal with.
I loved the way the whole story came together and once again Laura Kaye was able to write a short story that you will quickly become invested in and thoroughly enjoy!
“Then it’s you and me, til the end. In the darkness and in the light.”
