Just Another Manic Monday

Another Monday has rolled around and you know what that means… it’s time for Another Manic Monday post. Manic Monday is all about breaking up the monotony of the Monday blues and bringing attention to something that we are extremely excited about. Our posts could be from one of us or from all of us and could be about anything that we are super excited about.

Alexis says…

I am a self-proclaimed “darker read” type of gal.  I love storylines that push the envelope a little too far.  There is one author who really sticks in my mind and that is why I have dedicated this Manic Monday to the utterly amazing S. Walden.  I fell in love with her when I read Going Under.  There was some mystery, some romance and let me tell you…I will never look at video gaming the same way ever again.  As soon as I finished it, I didn’t think there was a book that could cure the book hangover that it caused. I did not stop thinking about it for a week straight. I think I had to have suggested that book in all of the book groups that I am in, plus gifted it to my girlfriends who aren’t as crazy about reading as I am.  Shortly after my love affair with Going Under calmed down just a tiny bit (ok, maybe not that much), the synopsis for Good was released.  Again, this book had a storyline that would push people from their normal comfort zones and it was darker, so I grabbed it the day it came out.  Yep, you guessed it, I devoured it in less then 24 hours and could not stop thinking about it and eagerly counted the days down for the sequel, Better. Luckily, since our blog has grown some momentum, we were offered a spot on the Better blog tour.  What does that mean?  Well…first off, I was honored to be asked and secondly I had the opportunity to read an ARC and fall back in love with S. Walden yet again.  I swear, S. Walden can do no wrong and I will continue to always recommend her books.  It’s not just her storylines that I love, it is also her flawless writing.  Ok, I think I need to stop gushing before I literally get slapped with a restraining order.

I wrote the above over the weekend.  Since then, I have introduced S. Walden’s books to two people, one of them being our very own Leary.  As of right now it looks like she will be pulling an all-nighter with Good because she literally cannot put it down!

S. Walden’s Books:

Anton Robinson is a black high school senior six weeks shy of graduation. Six weeks shy of freedom. And six weeks shy of never seeing the girl of his dreams again. He’s resigned himself to this, albeit reluctantly and with a heavy heart, because he knows he has no legitimate reason to initiate a friendship with her. His love interest, Emma Chapman, moves in different circles, is clearly from a world of economic advantage, and just happens to be white. He cannot imagine she would ever be interested in a black boy from the ghetto. But his luck changes when he is paired with her for an end-of-term English assignment, and he hopes to flirt his way into her heart.Emma never noticed Anton before the start of their project but quickly develops an attraction to him that is undeniable. Spending nearly every day together, they discover surprising similarities and sharp differences between each other that excite them and draw them closer until they embark on a secret romance. They are too afraid of how their friends and family will react, but they recognize the impracticality of keeping their love secret. When they finally go public with their relationship, the consequences are shocking, swift, and life-changing.

She wants love like any teenage girl, but she’s terrified to let Evan get close, to discover her secrets. His gentle persistence wins out, however, and she has no option but to open her heart to him.

When Clara’s responsibilities prove too great, she begins a slow descent into depression, making dangerous choices that threaten her relationships. She can stay trapped in her despair or discover redemption—how to forgive the past and love again.

About the Author:

S. Walden used to teach English before making the best decision of her life by becoming a full-time writer. She lives in Georgia with her very supportive husband who prefers physics textbooks over fiction and has a difficult time understanding why her characters must have personality flaws. She is wary of small children, so she has a Westie instead. Her dreams include raising chickens and owning and operating a beachside inn on the Gulf Coast (chickens included). When she’s not writing, she’s thinking about it.
