Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

Lauren Layne’s books always bring a smile to my face. They are all a bit angsty and deliver an awesome love story.  Irresistibly Yours skyrocketed to the top as my favorite one!

Penelope Pope has just moved to NYC after she got totally bamboozled by her old co-worker/unrequited crush.  She is a humungous sports enthusiast and is one of the top contenders for the sports editor position at Oxford Magazine, a top-selling men’s magazine. The only thing standing in her way? Her hunky competition, Cole Sharpe. Of course, Cole is also at the top of his game and thinks he is definitely going to land this position.

As luck would have it, they both end up landing the job and start to work together. Both Penelope and Cole have this insane chemistry yet try as hard as they can to fight the attraction they have for each other.  Eventually end up hooking up but try as hard as they can to keep it strictly platonic and keeping their hearts out of it.  But…being an avid romance reader, I knew that was not in the cards

Cole was just downright adorable. He has this all-mighty cocky side yet there is a part of his life that he holds so close to his heart that will make you weak in the knees.  Penelope is also the complete opposite of what he usually goes for in a woman. She can list the most insane sports facts from the top of her head and she’s a complete town boy. But honestly, I think this makes her such a fresh breath of air in the heroine world. She’s totally different and yet makes no qualms about it.  The two of them fighting their attraction of their reluctance to enter into an actual relationship was a bit comical to say the least.

I enjoyed this story a lot. I think the author did a lot of sports research or is obviously a huge sports fan which made the book that more interesting. It had the right amount of sweetness and angst to make it a great read.  Lastly, I can’t wait for Lincoln’s story!
