She knew. That’s why Mom hadn’t opened the door. She knew he was dead.Twenty years as an army brat and Ember Howard knew, too. The soldiers at the door meant her dad was never coming home. What she didn’t know was how she would find the strength to singlehandedly care for her crumbling family when her mom falls apart. Then Josh Walker enters her life. Hockey star, her new next-door neighbor, and not to mention the most delicious hands that insist on saving her over and over again. He has a way of erasing the pain with a single look, a single touch. As much as she wants to turn off her feelings and endure the heartache on her own, she can’t deny their intense attraction. Until Josh’s secret shatters their world. And Ember must decide if he’s worth the risk that comes with loving a man who could strip her bare.

You know that book that literally grabs you within the first few pages and keeps you sucked in the whole time?  Well…Full Measures is a great example of that sort of book.  I loved it; it filled the void of some books that just let me down. It’s the sort of book that makes you mad that your lunch break isn’t longer.  How could that hour have gone by so fast?

Ember seems to have her life perfectly planned out thanks to her douche of a boyfriend Riley.  Those plans get a wrench thrown in when her father dies in Afghanistan and she is left to put her family back together.  Her mom literally shuts down and takes to her room for a month.  Her sister April deals with grief by shopping her heart out and making some other bad decisions.  Then there is Gus, her little brother who she tries to shield from all of it. Not only does her father die, but then she finds Riley, the aforementioned douche in bed with what she thought was her closest friend. A fluke encounter with Josh, her high school crush that helps her put her life back together.  While Ember is taking care of her family, Josh is trying (trying is the operative word) to put her together. I loved Ember, she showed so much strength, enough for her whole family in the time of grief.  She was always there picking up the pieces as her mom was inconsolable at the time.

“We’re taking it slow until you say so, because I can’t bear to hear a ‘no’ from you.  But, here’s your only warning: ‘I’m going to chase the fuck out of you.’”

Josh, gosh, what I would have done to have one of those when I was younger.  He is the reformed, hottie/bad boy that has taken it upon himself to help Ember pick up the pieces that is her family and help her find who she really is. He always shows up exactly when Ember is at her worst and needs help.   You know throughout the book that there is more to Josh that meets the eye.  But I overlooked it because he was just so damn delish.  He knew that Ember was not ready for a relationship but he seriously wooed the hell out of her. He was exactly what she needed and he knew it.

“You stripped my soul clean.”

Like I said above, I seriously loved this book.  There is a hint, yes I said hint of insta-love which is a HUGE no-no for me.  But, honestly, it just worked in this book.  There were parts in the book that made my heart hurt and there were parts where I had tears.  The only drawback to this book was that I wish there was a further out epilogue.  But, I am selfish when it comes to epilogues, so everyone else will be happy with the ending.

“Thank you for being exactly what I’ve imagined would really be like.”

About Rebecca Yarros

Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and lover of all things chocolate, coffee, and Paleo. In addition to being a mom, military wife, and blogger, she can never choose between Young Adult and New Adult fiction, so she writes both. She’s a graduate of Troy University, where she studied European history and English, but still holds out hope for an acceptance letter to Hogwarts. Her blog, The Only Girl Among Boys, has been voted the Top Military Mom Blog the last two years, and celebrates the complex issues surrounding the military life she adores.

When she’s not writing, she’s tying on hockey skates for her kids, or sneaking in some guitar time. She is madly in love with her army-aviator husband of eleven years, and they’re currently stationed in Upstate NY with their gaggle of rambunctious kiddos and snoring English Bulldog, but she would always rather be home in Colorado.
