New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Alice Clayton brings her trademark blend of funny and sexy to this second contemporary romance in the brand-new Hudson Valley series!
Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is...cheese.
Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.
Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be...love?
Stacia and Casey say…
Okay, so when we say we were dying for this book, we mean we were literally ready to “drop everything” to read this book. Last year Nuts blew us away and was one of both of our top reads for 2015. Alice Clayton has such a talent for writing fun, witty, and sexy books. Not only are her books full of lots of Skokie moments, but there are tons of laugh-out-loud moments as well; which we think make for the best books!
Cream of the Crop could probably be read as a standalone before reading Nuts, but why would you want to skip the fabulousness that is Nuts?!? So of course we recommend you read book one in the Hudson Valley series, before reading book two. Plus there are plenty of characters from the first book that make an appearance in this one, and you will truly appreciate the whole book more if you read them in order.
Natalie Grayson is a confident, successful, woman enjoying her life and her LOVE for all things cheese. Spending Saturday mornings at the Farmer’s Market, where she gets to indulge in her love of the finest artisanal cheeses made by the ultimate sexy man, Oscar Mendoza is her new favorite past time.
“Wearing faded jeans, scuffed work boots, a hole old off-white Irish sweater with big cable knits, just the edge of a white T-shirt peeking out of the collar, he was right off the pages of Fuck Off He’s Beautiful monthly.”
Natalie is such a strong, self-assured, hilarious main character. We loved so much about her, but her internal soundtrack was probably one of our favorite parts. Oscar is this six foot six inch beefy man that is covered in tattoos and seems to be full of secrets.
So, while we both thoroughly enjoyed so much about this book, we have to admit to being a bit disappointed toward the end. The story started out so strong, but then closer to the end it felt a bit rushed and ended kind of abruptly. Not to mention we were disheartened by Oscar’s behavior in several incidents (to keep it spoiler free we won’t go into specifics). He is definitely a gentleman, but in these occasions he was almost douchey and it was just so out of character for him and the swoon-worthy cheese maker we had fallen in love with. We are both still excited for the next book in the series, which will be about Clara, Natalie and Roxie’s other best friend.
