I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.
His name is Michael Crist.
My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.
Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.
Because he’s finally noticed me.
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.
In my city.
The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.
We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.
***Corrupt is a stand-alone dark romance set to be released in 2015.
From the minute I read the synopsis for Corrupt, I was dying to get my hands on it. It sounded so dark and twisted, but also so different from Penelope’s other writing, that she had me intrigued.
“Beware the fury of a patient man.”
Erika “Rika” Fane has been a part of the Crist family since the day she was born. The two families are best friends and they have high hopes that Rika and the youngest Crist son will one day end up together, merging the families into one. But he isn’t the one that she craves… of course she wants the brother that doesn’t seem to know she exists, that won’t look her in the eye, and that makes her feel things she didn’t know she wanted.
Michael Crist and his three best friends are the trouble makers of the town, but are still highly respected. They do what they want and with their families influence, they get away with it. They are the Four Horsemen– until one night when Rika joins them and it changes all of their lives.
“I’d always been scared of him. The thrilling kind of scared that got me turned on.”
It’s been awhile since I couldn’t put a book down and it keep me on the edge of my toes. This book is full of games, twists, some mystery and some very “skokie” (Three Girls word for hot and/or sexy) scenes. O-M-G one scene in particular… let me just say it was SMOKING HOT! You can feel the chemistry between Rika and Michael from the very beginning, but there is still so much unknown to their story that it really makes you want to keep reading.
I think my only complaint about this book would be that it became a little “over the top” at the end with the way everything played out. Also, I would have loved a different, if not longer epilogue.
“You’re in everything.”
I do have to admit, I have a little bit of a crush on Author Penelope Douglas… not in a weird way; maybe it is more like I am in awe of her writing skills and also her amazing ability to find just the right song/playlist to go with her books. While I was reading her Fall Away series, which I LOVED, I added so many great songs to my playlists and of course with Corrupt, I knew she wouldn’t disappoint in the music department! OH boy did she nail it- seriously you need to listen to the songs mentioned in scenes, while you read, it adds so much to the overall experience!
