Alexis says…

This is the third book by Alessandra Torre’s that I have read.  I was a fan of hers to begin with, but after reading The Dumont Diaries, I think my new status is mega fan.  I am so glad I was able to get this book as 1 instead of 4 novellas because I am certain I would’ve been stalking Alessandra myself to get the next installment like right then!
The Dumont Diaries is the VERY unconditional love story between two tortured people, Candace and Nathan.  Candace is very open about her short comings in life.  In her own words, she was a poor planner and after graduating college with no job prospects besides Radio Shack, she decides to become a stripper.  While dancing one night she meets the mysterious BlueEyes (Nathan) who requests her services.  Being one paycheck away from homelessness, she accepts his proposal for one night away from the strip club for $10,000.00.  The next morning she wakes to find a business proposal that will not only help her financial shortcomings but also help her father, whose hospital bills are astronomical.  But with accepting that arrangement, she has to understand that is has nothing to do with love it is a pure business transaction based on Nathan’s needs.
Candace is one of those heroines that you just love because she is so underestimated by everyone around her.  She is smart, calculated, earnest, and on top of everything, just wants to feel loved by the one person who won’t/can’t give her that.  At one point, I started to feel like she was becoming Lizbeth Salander, one of my all-time favorite heroines/super sleuths!  She knew there was a reason she was there and was determined to find out and boy did she ever.  Nathan on the other hand was so cold, to the point you want to know what the hell happened to him to make him act this way.  I have to say, the twist in this story was very interesting.  Once Candace starts to chip away at his steel exterior, you see a man that has had his fair share of betrayal and his only coping mechanism is keeping people at bay.  I can say that at least once in this book I wanted to literally kick Nathan’s ass.  Some of the crap he pulled was just too far even for him.
One of the best parts of the book was the EXPLOSIVE chemistry between Candace and Nathan; they were so fucking hot together.  I swear I could smell smoke coming off my Kindle at one point.  His demanding ways complimented her neediness for him.  As Candace said, their bodies complimented each other’s.
Ahhh…there is so much I want to say, but don’t want to give any spoilers away.  The twists and turns this book takes will make you feel like you are on a roller-coaster.  I will say this book is one awesome mind-fuck that you will want to read.
I have to share one of my favorite quotes from this book, I think it may be one of the best quotes I’ve ever read.
“My view of love is an unfair one, created by Nicholas Sparks novels, Lifetime movies, and Michael Buble love songs.”
