A sweet and steamy New Adult Romance from Amazon bestselling author of the Ruthless People series, J.J. McAvoy…

After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he’s also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.

With everyone in class vying to be one of the twelve disciples—a group of twelve students that Professor Black takes under his wing—tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.

But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best—and that’s Levi Black.

But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

Stacia says…

Wow, this was such a refreshing read. It was just so different from the genres that I have been reading lately and the same type of storyline that has been put out over and over again. Not only do we get some pretty skokie scenes, but we also get a sweet, suspenseful, captivating, and at times angsty story.

“Six pack abs, plays the guitar, listens to records, and is a book nerd… better watch out or I might just start to like you.”

One week together… after meeting at a bar and having explosive sex, Thea Cunning and hottie Levi Black agreed that  this was all they were looking for. A week of sex and then they would both get back to the reality of their own lives. After an amazing week together that includes a lot more feelings than either of them planned, they walk away from each other. Thea has a grueling schedule in law school to get ready for and surprise, surprise Levi Black is a professor. He is Professor Black, better known as El Diablo to his students or in the legal world he is known as The Cleaner. He’s an intense lawyer, who has never lost a case and is known for cleaning up everyone’s messes (legally speaking). After the initial shock of finding out that the man she spent time with isn’t who she thought, she knows she has to let him go and continue in the class; especially since she has a greater reason (and need) to complete this class, become one of Black’s Twelve Disciples (which are students who get to intern at his law firm) and to become a successful lawyer.

Levi Black- okay a guitar yielding, dirty talking, hot as sin lawyer. Kind of sounds too good to be true, but believe me he has his flaws (and secrets)! Thea was a very strong and determined female lead character. She is also very smart, witty, quick thinking, and resourceful, which helps her throughout the book. I think she was the perfect yin to Levi’s yang.

“You are not a black rainbow. I see every one of your colors. You may have been one once, but you sure as hell aren’t one now.

I wasn’t sure at first about the way the story switches between the past and the present. I don’t usually like this type of writing, but it actually worked. Plus it isn’t throughout the whole story; the book is divided into 3 parts and the past and present part is only in part one. The book is also told in dual points of view- it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of being in the male main character’s head, so I was very happy with getting Levi’s POV.

“When will you get it? I don’t just want you at my side, I need you.”

There are a few unexpected twists and turns to the story, that had me hooked. I literally read this book from start to finish in one day, without putting it down (my husband and kids may have gotten ignored, oops LOL). Honestly it reminded me a little of the hit TV show, which I love, How to Get Away with Murder– but on a hotter and sexier level. If you are looking for something different that is hard to put down, this book is for you!

About J.J. McAvoy

I’m a twenty-year-old something born in Montreal, Canada but currently living in Virginia for school. I would tell you want my major is however after two years I still have no idea what I’m doing.

So I’m a writer (duh that’s how you found me), movie enthusiast, and self-proclaimed chef. I love music even though I can’t sing or dance to save my life. (That doesn’t necessarily stop me but you’ve been warned.)

I started Ruthless People the summer of 2013 in hopes of giving myself a new type of love and crime drama. I never knew so many people thought like me! I feel truly blessed to have fans like you all! Writing is my true love and having you all enjoy my words is a dream come true.
