Lili Porter hates the rain. Bad things happen in the rain. As a small town social worker dedicated to protecting children, she is forced to start over to escape her rural disaster. Determined to follow her father’s advice—head up and chin high—Lili finds herself in a new city, taking on a new system, this time healthcare. In doing so, she gets something she never expected, an intimate behind-the-scenes look at life in the hospital.

Lili learns that a surgeon’s hands have the power to heal more than physical wounds. And a prescription for truth can cure three years of sleep running and leave you beautifully awake.

Alexis has been telling me to read this book for the longest time. She said it was a SEXY version of Grey’s Anatomy and boy was she right!! I should have picked this book up a long time ago- I am officially in love with Dr. Chase Colton aka Dr. Seduction, Dr. Sweet and Sexy, Dr. Possessive, Dr. Intensity… I could go on all day. This man puts McSteamy and McDreamy to shame!

“Dr. Compassionate one minute and psycho surgeon the next”

Beautifully Awake is about Lili Porter, a case manager at a Philadelphia hospital. After rotating shifts to the Neuro ward, she meets complicated Chief Neurosurgeon Dr. Chase Colton. Lili and Chase both have complex pasts and after years of trying to deal with their issues apart, they find solitude and peace together.

“Truth. You want the honest truth? I love you, Blue, more than anything.”

Even with the horrible things that Lili has been through from a past relationship, she is that loving, sweet, friend to everyone type of personality. She closed herself off to feeling much of anything for over three years and Chase literally wakes up her and helps her heal. Then on the other spectrum you have the way that Chase decided to deal with his past and the guilt that he feels. He is angry, bitter, resentful, and pretty cold to everyone around him. When these two find each other and finally give into their truths it is explosive. The sexy banter, the dominant doctor, and the smokin’ hot scenes were amazing. I loved the caring, tender side to Chase; he loves Lili and it shows with every look, touch, and loving gesture.

I also loved Lili’s best friend Sierra and Chase’s best friend Asher. These two were hilarious and great supporting character. I am excited for Asher’s book Beautifully Done coming out in July.

“You woke me up Chase. You brought color back to my life. The only time I ever want to see grey again is when I’m looking in your eyes.”

If you want a passionate book about a sexy alpha doctor with a sweet female lead, then this book is for you. Truth!

Diagnosis: Borrowed time
Treatment: Trust
Prognosis: Beautifully Done

Asher Craig drives fast, flies high, and screws hard. But make no mistake, he’s a gentleman.

He learned way too young that we’re all on borrowed time. Fair or unfair, you only get one ride. He vows to live for the moment because it’s the only time he owns. The past is beyond his control and the future may not exist. With his only loyalties being his family, he thrives for that edge where plunging over is always in the realm of possibility.

When a beautiful familiar face tilts his axis, he re-examines everything and realizes that second chances are overrated and a lifetime of firsts are irreplaceable. In the end, it’s not her medical degree but his trust that needs to prove that the ride together is worth it … until it’s Beautifully Done.

Alexis says…

Beautifully Done is the second book in the Beautifully Awake series. I highly recommend you read Beautifully Awake prior to this book, as there are a lot of spoilers. This book is about Asher and Talia, but you do get to read what happens to Lily and Chase as well.

You will remember Asher from the first book as Chase’s womanizing best friend. He is wealthy, beyond hot, and my goodness is he an alpha male. His life is completely flipped upside down when he runs into Talia; his and Chase’s childhood friend. Gone is his living hard life, he completely changes his life once he realizes she is the one that he is supposed to be with. The readers learned about Talia in the first book; she was the girl Chase impregnated and carried an immense amount of guilt about, after he asked her to terminate the pregnancy. She moved away right after high school and no one heard from her again. Flash forward to the present where Asher and Talia start a long-distance relationship as she lives on the West Coast and he on the East Coast. While dating, secrets and pasts collide to make one hell of an explosive story. Can they survive what life throws their way?

“Talia and I may have had a beginning and a middle, but together we had not end.”

To be honest, the authors jam-packed A LOT into this book. Honestly, within the first half of the book, I completely thought I had the entire plot figured out. Was I right? Um…no. I was completely caught of guard by almost half of the story. I think there were some twists and turns that were put in to the story for a shock value that were a bit much for me. I still found the book enjoyable even if was a bit WOAH.

“You are it for me. I’m done.”

This book was written in Asher’s point of view for 95% of the book. Throughout the story, I didn’t really understand or emotionally connect with Talia until the very end. I was a bit mad at her for some of her actions in the beginning of her relationship with Asher. You could tell that Asher would literally do anything in his willpower for her. His feelings for Talia were so intense they were almost bleeding from the author’s words. At one point, I think he needed to tone down his alpha-ness as it was a bit much for me. I enjoyed finding out what happened to everyone in their inner circle and I really enjoyed how the authors weaved their storylines in.

Asher’s motto throughout the book was that you are living on borrowed time. I don’t think I could’ve said it more poignantly. You have to fight for what you want and take care of what is yours. Throughout the book until the very end Talia and Asher fought for their love. Plus, their chemistry together was pretty smoking!

“Life is what it is, can’t change it, just have to live it.”

If you love your epilogues as much as I do, then watch out…you are in for one heck of a treat! I was completely blown away. I’m not going to lie when I tell you that it literally kept me up for a good half hour.

About Riley Mackenzie

Yep. That’s an “s.” There are two of us!

We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say. Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources since they married us.

It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world needed a splash of medicine. Write what you know.
So you can easily find us at 4 o’clock on Bank Street beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands (totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes, it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight quotations).

When we are not working on our book or reading the latest angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on. Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball, basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school.
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?

Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know), otherwise it might have taken us two years to write Beautifully Awake rather than one.

So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the list!
