Be My Hero by Linda Kage: Review

Be My Hero by Linda Kage: ReviewBe My Hero on August 25, 2014

Once upon a time, there was this pampered rich girl who was kind of full of herself. She really only cared about appearances and hiding all her dark, ugly secrets under the guise of an opinionated snob. But then Eva Mercer got pregnant, shot by a psycho, and kicked out of the only home she knew. Now she’s broke, unemployed, and has to start anew with a newborn to raise. But how?

On the other side of town, sexy, tattooed orphan, Patrick Ryan, can’t get a break. He’s out on parole for defending the last damsel in distress while trying to help her support her child, but all he wants is to find his one true love. He knows this woman by scent, smile, and laugh, but he’s never actually met her. He doesn’t even know her name. He just knows she’s the key to fixing everything.

One kind of hero can save you from physical harm. Another can rescue you from a different kind of doom. To reach their dreams, Eva and Pick can save each other. But first, they must open their hearts and learn how to trust.

Alexis says…

For the last three days I’d been in a book funk. The last book I read gave me the most enormous book hangover that it took not one, but three books to get over. Yep, I literally picked up three books and put them down before starting Be My Hero.

Be My Hero was exactly what I needed. The prologue alone game me shivers and some chest pain. After reading it, I was completely sucked into to Eva and Pick’s story. To be honest, I read this book in a day because it was hard to put down.

”I gave you a glimpse.”

The story starts with Pick as a 14 year old boy and his encounter with a witch (or so he believes) that gives him a glimpse into what he could have in the future. Through this glimpse he sees who he could end up with and what their life will be like in the future. For ten years he holds onto this small peek-see into the future and nothing or anyone can hold a candle to the woman he is supposed to be with, Tinker Bell. Pick grew up in foster care and was shuffled around until he was 18. He could’ve turned out a gang member or a drug addict. But instead, he turned out as the most selfless person. He dedicated his life to Tristy and made sure that she had everything she needed even if that meant he suffered.

The reader also gets to see what sort of hell, rambunctious, party-girl Eva lived through when she was younger. Her life was completely awful and heart breaking. From Linda’s other books, you know that Eva is preggers and the father is not in the picture. I didn’t connect with Eva as much in the other books nor in the first few chapters of the book. I was so worried that I would not like her throughout the book, but lo and behold, I came to love her. She really grew into her own in this book and found what her calling was. You watched Eva become the person she was always meant to be.

“You’re the best man I’ve ever met, Patrick Ryan. Thank you for choosing me.”

I kissed her hard. “I’ll always choose you.”

The moment Eva walks into the bar that Pick works the fireworks start. These two have palpable chemistry and you just know that these two are made for each other. Pick was just amazing, he was the most selfless person and Eva in the begging was very selfish. It was funny that the two of each other brought out the opposite in each other. Eva made Pick more selfish and fight for the things HE wanted. Eva in turn grew up and really came into her own. OyMG…then there were the amazing heartfelt comments that Pick had with Eva. I swooned. Hardcore.

Though, there are some serious hurdles that they have to jump to get to that place Pick had glimpses of all those years ago, their love saves them and brings them together.

I also enjoyed that you got to catch up with the rest of the gang from the rest of the group and got a glimpse of what is to come for Reese and Mason.

I have read both books in the series prior to this one. Though they can be read as stand-alones, I recommend you read book 1, Price of a Kiss first.
