“I love that you love me, professor.”
“I love loving you, beauty.”
Since their intense, passionate beginning, Professor Dean West and his wife Olivia have fought dark secrets and betrayal in order to save their marriage. Now reeling in the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Liv and Dean are driven further apart by a vindictive threat to Dean’s career. Struggling to stand on her own for the first time in years, Liv is determined to defend her husband and prove herself. Then an unexpected letter dredges up old insecurities and endangers Liv’s newfound independence. As Dean fights for his professional life, he is forced to confront his worst fear when he discovers that he can’t protect his beloved wife from her own painful past.
Perfection: The condition, state, or quality of being free or as free as possible from all flaws or defects.
What that definition is missing is the literary works of Nina Lane. Every sentence in Awaken was utter perfection. It was beautiful, emotional, poetic and heart-warming. Awaken is the final installment in the Spiral of Bliss trilogy and I could not have asked for a better conclusion. Dean and Liv’s story can only be described as one of most exquisite love stories of all time and will forever hold a place in my heart. I will not give out any spoilers as I want the reader to experience it the same way I did, spoiler-free.
“Easy. It’s so easy to be with her, my lusty fairy, my beautiful wife. Wanting her is like breathing. Needing her is in my blood. And loving her will always be the beat of my heart.”
Awaken picks up where Allure leaves off. Dean has left the country due to circumstances that he cannot control. While Dean is away, Liv starts to come into her own. She finally is living on her own and starts to become a more self-sufficient, independent woman who wants to make something of herself. She wants to be able to fend for herself and not have to rely on Dean financially. When her past comes back and threatens to tear down the foundation that she and Dean built , she stands up not only for herself but her life and their relationship and doesn’t let it bog her down. I think this book was definitely most about Liv and her transformation into the strong-willed person she had become.
“I understand now, for the first time ever. Love is both so complicated and so simple because it’s all the emotions distilling into one.”
In the backdrop, is the awful circumstance that sends Dean away. Dean was most worried about what it would do to Liv. What he didn’t realize was that she really was stronger than he ever thought. He didn’t realize their love could withstand whatever the fallout could be. I was nervous throughout the whole book on how the situation with Dean would end. When I thought it was going to go one way, it would zag, and then you start to think that it’s going to stay that way it would then zig. I have to say I was happy with the way that it ended. Also, it must go on record that Dean is just the most amazing, romantic man there ever was. All of his small tokens, gifts, messages, etc. brought tears to my eyes. His love for Liv knows no bounds and is all-consuming in the most amazing way.
“And I now know that all these years, my husband hasn’t only been protecting me. He’s been protecting this intense, precious bond we share that is more than desire, more than tenderness, more than adoration, more than love.”
I have to say that this was one of the sexiest books I have ever read. I don’t know how Ms. Lane did it, but she wrote one of the most erotic scenes ever, when the two main characters weren’t even on the same continent. I can’t stress my obsession for this series; the love that Dean and Liv share is something to strive for. Like I said earlier, this book is perfection and will go down as one of my ultimate all-time favorite books ever. It must also be said that I went through an insane amount of tissues while not only reading the book, but also writing this review.
