My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether.

I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows.

But he sees me.

Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I’m terrified he would come after me.

I’m on the run, determined not to take him down with me but absolutely unable to let him go.

My name is Riley Peterson…at least for today.

Alexis says…

Holy Mother of a first chapter. I mean…Aly really pulled out the red carpet to hook me right in. I’m not going to lie when I say I was in the bathtub and near electrocution when my Kindle almost fell in the tub. Let’s just say…the first chapter is heart-stopping, there was also some cringing involved.  But trust me, the cringing was totally worth it.

Leo and Erica have been on the run for many years and assumed different identities under witness protection. It isn’t until they move to their newest place and Erica starts a friendship which blossoms into a relationship with their neighbor that things get interesting. You see, their neighbor is Slate Andrews; the reigning boxing champ who comes back to Ohio to get away from everyone once his match is done. Both Slate and Erica keep things from each other at first. They both don’t want each other to know who they really are. But danger is imminent in their case and makes it impossible for everyone to keep their secrets buried.

Like I said above, this book was totally intense and I was SO NOT expecting that. My chest hurt for the first few chapters. But in pure Aly fashion, she turned it around and added some really funny scenes in there. My heart totally, without a doubt, broke for Erica. I can’t even fathom what the hell she went though. I don’t even know how someone actually comes back from that. From the result of something that happened in her past, she is frightful of many things, like closed doors, loud noises, etc. She is also non-trusting of people, which again is very understanding. It was amazing watching her completely being able to trust someone again besides Leo. Once she becomes more comfortable with Slate, she starts to slowly transform back into the person she used to be.

“Fuck your fairytale. I just want you. I’ll make my own God damn happily ever after. But you’re the one who is mistaken. You’ll be at the end of that story, beautiful.”

Then there is Slate. Oh Slate…. Total dreamboat of pure muscle with a heart of gold. I totally, wholeheartedly, loved Slate. From the beginning, all he wanted to do was protect that timid, beautiful girl with the prettiest eyes. Literally, Slate would do anything for Erica. He knew that something awful had happened to Erica to make her react the way she did, but he didn’t realize how bad it actually was.   I loved how fiercely protective he was of Erica and how persistent he was in winning her over.

“Everyone has scars, Erica. Don’t for a second think yours are any different based on how you got them. I love you-scars and all.”

Leo was also a great character. I think some people may think he and Erica’s relationship screams dependency and it was to a point. She felt safe and at ease with him and his guilt kept him with her. All Leo wanted to see was Erica finally get her happily ever after. AHHH…and what Aly did in the epilogue-love it! I  cannot wait for the last nugget that Aly dropped on the last page of the book.

Aly has become one of favorite authors of late. Her books are so awesome and also so HOT! I definitely recommend this one!
